Guajiru is a wonderfully sleepy seaside village that still earns its living by fishing the abundant Atlantic Ocean on which it sits and through agriculture.

Located an hour and a half north west of Fortaleza in Ceara state, Guajiru is easily accessed by car thanks to the new road infrastructure that has opened up the area to tourists.

Sandwiched between Flexeiras in the north and Lagoinha to the south, both of which are popular with tourists from other regions of Brazil as well as international visitors, Guajiru is one of those specail places that you should visit before it becomes well known.

There are several excellent pousadas in Guajiru and in the nearby villages and towns, where you can rest you head after a hard day out on the water. The choice of restaurants is improving and nowadays you can enjoy internatioanl cuisine on those days when you want a break from the Brazilian kitchen or when you are celebrating a special occassion.

If you are into extreme sports or are "maritime friendly" you will find plent of ways in whic to exert yourself. Thanks to the constant offshore breezes, kitesurfing and windsurfing are big favourites in the area. However if you are more of a land-lubber or simply don't fancy breaking a sweat, exploring the dunes, visiting local towns, taking boat trips up the river into the mangroves or renting a beach buggy for the day can be great ways to discover the area around Guajiru.
